A clean bill of health!

I had my yearly check-up with my hematologist today, and it was a positive one. My blood counts are all normal -- so I’m still in complete remission, and feeling wonderful! J

There are many parts to this hike, and of course, there is a personal side to it. When I was told I was in complete remission I understood in about 5 minutes all that I went though. When it was actually happening, it didn’t feel real. It just happened so fast. Well, for some reason, at that particular moment, it all hit me. That’s when I decided I needed to do something.

So after some soul-searching, I decided I wanted to hike. That’s what really makes me happy, so I was going to take my good health and put it to good use! And that’s part of what I’m out to do. And I hope that I can inspire others to do the same. Sometimes it can be difficult to find, but when you do, take what you’ve got and run with it!

I know how you feel! I had my artificial heart valve replaced last Spring after two years of growing anemia caused by a leaking valve. Suddenly I'm healthy and strong again! It is just a blessing from God and, like you. I don't want to just fritter it away! But family responsibilities are so far keeping me from planning a really epic adventure such as yours and your Mom's.
So I am really going to enjoy following your journey. I am so glad you are in complete remission!

Hey Old Walrus -- congrats on your good health, too! Maybe someday I'll meet up with you on the AT or something. My dad and I would like to hike the AT sometime in the future! Maybe that'll be my next adventure. :)

Wonderful news! My 10-year-old son, diagnosed with VSAA in January of 2004, is hoping for a similar report next week. It sounds like the physical part of your adventure is going well; keep us updated on the fundraising, too.

Old Walrus...I'm sure family life can be an epic adventure in itself. Maybe you can plan your big thing with your kids! Thanks for following the hike.

Paige...I hope your news is as good as Robin's. Please let us know.

Robin...as always, I miss you. Doing laundry in Spiceland, Indiana. Thus far no Scary or Posh sighting. I love you.
