This is tough! (Day 2)

Start: Milton, DE

Destination: Bridgeville, DE

Miles: 17

Weather: Cool & breezy

Today proved to us that this is no small feat. Today was hard, but we are looking forward to things getting a little easier each day.

We pushed through a lot of physical pain - blisters and sore muscles. The good thing about it is we were able to laugh at each other limping along on our last few miles. It doesn't matter how sore we are or how bad things may get... there's always something for us to laugh about. It keeps us positive.

The hardest part of the day by far was lunch. Adam and my dad drove out by us and delivered KFC, and that was surely a treat! But after eating, we had to say our final good-byes. It was hard to hold back the tears after we went our separate ways. So the guys are on their way back to Wisconsin. Hopefully things work out and we'll get to see them at least a few times along the way. Thanks Dad and Adam for all your help and for being great trail angels while you were here! We love you!!

And then, a HUGE highlight -- Dave Herring, who is an 11-year Aplastic Anemia survivor, heard about our journey and wanted to help. He's from the area, so he picked us up off the trail this afternoon, put us up in a hotel (with a whirlpool), will be picking us up early tomorrow and dropping us off where we left off on the trail. THANK YOU SO MUCH DAVE! What a wonderful stay!

We are feeling rejuvinated and ready for tomorrow. My mom is sleeping sound, and I think it's time I join her. And it looks like the Steelers will win the Superbowl, so I'm going turn off the TV and hit the hay! Sweet dreams everyone!

Congratulations on 2 big days so far! As a long distance hiker myself (the North Country Trail), I can assure you that it will get easier, but it won't get easier yet. You'll need at least 2 weeks before you've fully gotten your body used to the level of physical activity. And you'll need that long to fully integrate your daily routine of walking and resting. Road walking is the *worst* and it hurts your feet more than anything. Take care and keep walking!

I have been thinking of you two. I love reading your entries even though you two just started on the Hike.
Yeah, the Steelers won!
