Day 5
2-8-06
Start: Village of Starr, MD
Destination: East end of Chesapeake Bay Bridge, MD
Miles: 20.2
Weather: clear skies, chilly
We had a pretty good day today. We hiked 10 miles in our first 3 hours! That’s a little over 3 miles/hour!! For lunch we stopped in Queenstown (another VERY cute little town). We stopped in the Ivy Market & Café for lunch and coffee. To all ADT hikers – this is right on the trail, and it’s also connected to a B&B. Wonderful stop and very friendly people!
After Queenstown, we headed into Grasonville, MD. We hooked up to the Cross Island Trail across Kent Island. We ended at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Our hostess for the night, Siri, whom we hooked up with through Ken & Marcia Powers (ADT thru-hikers ’05) picked us up and drove us over the bridge and let us stay with her for the night. No pedestrians are allowed on the bridge except for one day of the year when they close it down. I think it’s 4 miles long. Very cool. I find that I am fascinated by bridges and tunnels.
Siri lives in an apartment at St. John’s college in Annapolis. What a wonderful hostess. We got a load of laundry done, a hot shower, and a wonderful dinner. She’s then dropping us off at our start point on the West end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tomorrow morning.
Thank you SO much, Siri!!
