This post was written February 10, 2006. But, I've been 'off the grid' and unable to post. Enjoy catching up!
Day 7
2-10-06
Oh, what a day! We are exhausted! We went from the hotel to Mark Vieth’s office in D.C. He is a lobbyist working with the AA&MDSIF and helping us out a ton! What a great guy! We first were brought outside with the crew from Fox 5. We are going to be on the morning news in D.C. How cool! And I think I’m getting a little better at this whole media thing. I’m actually starting to have fun with it! After that we met up with Bob Caroll, Chariman of the Board for the AA&MDSIF, as well as Neil Horikoshi, the VP of the board. Bob has been battling MDS for over 15 years and receives a transfusion every other week. He has received over 800 units of blood, so next time there is a blood drive in your area, please give! Bob is just one example of the many who survive because of those of you who selflessly give. Neil is also an aplastic anemia survivor.
We then headed to Congress for our luncheon. Many of the congressional representatives' staffers showed up to hear our story and help spread the word of what we’re doing. It wonderful to see the turnout (thank you all so much for coming!). I felt so completely honored to meet all these people.
We had an opportunity to see much of the city as we drove around. The Washington Monument, the Capitol Building, the Lincoln Memorial, and much more. What a beautiful city! Marilyn and Jennifer were with us the entire day, also. Those two are SO much fun to hang out with!
After all the running around in D.C., we headed to Annapolis for the fundraiser. It was held at the Sheraton, where we were put up for another night – we’re getting spoiled with all these hotel stays (but we’re certainly not complaining!) The fundraiser went great. There was a great band that was playing in the beginning – I believe it was a father/son pair that were playing. Then, there was an auction. The auctioneer volunteered for the event, and he was so much fun! We had some comedy along with the auction.
Before the fundraiser, Marilyn brought us to Hudson Trail Outfitters to find mom a bigger pair of shoes temporarily until her blisters heal a bit more and her swelling goes down. Jonathan, the salesperson, got her a pair that fit, and even hammered some extra space by her little toe. He also fit her into some wonderful insoles that will help her feet from slipping, avoiding more blisters. What a wonderful guy! Thank you, Jonathan, for all your great help!
Thank you to all signing our guestbook and giving feedback to our blog entries. You are really pushing us along. We appreciate the support so much!
