Day 8
2-11-06
Start: Annapolis, MD – the corner of Defense Hwy and Housley Rd.
Destination: Intersection of 197 & 450, MD
Miles: 13.9
Weather: Rainy, ending in snowfall
First of all, we planned to do a little better than 20 miles today, but it was the first time we got turned around. So, at about 2:30 – 3:00, we got messed up and ended up going 2 miles off trail and had to backtrack those two miles back to the trail. Jennifer (from the AA&MDSIF) and her husband, Jeff, came to our rescue and picked us up. They drove us down to where our route continues, so we wouldn’t be as confused tomorrow. We missed out on a few miles, but we’re hoping to get a fresh early start tomorrow.
There are warnings all over the place of a winter storm. One local pulled over and told us it is forecasted that we’ll get 15” of snow, and the storm will hit about 1:00. Well, it started to snow at about 2:00, I think and it didn’t start accumulating until about 3:30 where we were, so we’ll see. I guess if it keeps on snowing, it’ll be pretty piled up tomorrow! No matter what, we’re hiking through it! Hoping that the Wisconsin winters have prepared us well.
