Camping Along the Potomac

Day 12
2-16-06

Start: White's Ferry, MD
Destination: Brunswick, MD
Miles: 19.5
Weather: Sunny and warm, just like our Wisconsin spring season!

I felt a little bad for everyone back at home when I heard they got 10-12" of snow. But we are sure glad to see it's all melting away by us... just makes for easier hiking.

Today was a full walking day again, but went pretty well. We got to our campsite before 5 pm, so we were thrilled about that!

Before we left, a lot of people asked us how much weight we might lose, and although I don't know the pounds, exactly, I thought I'd give you all an update. We've been out for 12 days, and I don't think we've lost even ONE yet. Not too suprising for me! You should have seen me at lunch time: We found a little convenience store in Point of Rocks, MD. I ate a grilled ham & cheese, a hot dog, a king-size Reeses Peanut Butter Cup, some Dots, and a 16 oz. coffee! Mom ate a patty melt, a bowl of chili, a snickers bar, and a 16 oz. coffee. We figure we're going to have to make some better choices health-wise but, for now, we're taking full advantage of the calories we burn each day while our bodies are still in shock. :)

Right now, we're camping along the Potomac River all cozy and comfy tucked away in our sleeping bags. We ate a chicken stew camp meal made on our Jetboil tonight, and that filled us right up. We each ate a small bag of Doritoes for dessert that Neil thankfully talked us into taking with us this morning -- it really hit the spot.

So, off to bed once again. Shooting for 22 miles tomorrow! We will also be stopping in at Harper's Ferry for brunch. The Appalachian Trail goes through there, too, so that's exciting for us!

Sweet dreams to all!
