Longest mileage day so far!

After two nights of camping, we stopped at a hotel.  The three most recent entries cover almost 70 miles.  That's a lot of ground in three days!  Enjoy.

Start: Killiansburg Cave CG, MD
Destination: Williamsport, MD
Miles: 26
Weather: Really cold and windy

We actually did 27 miles if you include the LONG mile to the hotel. After only 2 nights camping, we desperately needed laundry done and showers. So we hit the trail hard today in order to make it to Williamsport.

We had a detour on the trail, too. Some of the towpath was unsafe because of erosion from flooding - we actually thought for a second that maybe it would be worth a try, but quickly decided to go the extra 1.6 miles and not risk falling into the Potomac or having to turn back.

The detour took some rural roads. We forgot what a pain it was dealing with traffic again. And, boy, does that wind pick up over farm fields! BRRR!

We had our lunch in a cave today. That was very cool. It wasn't any warmer, of course, but it blocked the wind for a little bit. We're following the river, so we're at a pretty low elevation yet, but every once in a while we get a pretty view of some mountains peeking up from behind the treeline.

About 67 miles, or 3 more days, we'll be in a new state!
