New Challenge: Getting Sick on the Trail

Start: Williamsport, MD
Destination: Hancock, MD
Miles: 24.2
Weather: Cold

Well, as my title states, we were given a new challenge -- unfortunately thrown a road block. With about 5 miles to go to our destination, which included a hotel (because of the bitter-cold night temps), I got very sick. I don't know if it was a bug, something I ate, or my body rebelling against the constant pounding.

But we had to march on. I took it very slow, sipping Gatorade and water almost constantly, trying to rehydrate myself. We got to our hotel at about 6 pm, right around dark.

Hoping whatever it was that hit me would pass, I ran a warm bath and went right to bed.

At about 9:30 pm, I awoke to the same sick feeling. What an absolutely sinking feeling. If I don't feel better by morning, we will be forced to take a zero day.

Then mom started feeling it, too. So we're here together, nursing ourselves until we're feeling rehydrated and healthy - and then we'll hit the trail again.

Please try not to worry too much, though. We're really sticking together and we'll be better soon. Just please shoot out a little prayer for us that we'll be back on the trail very soon. :)

Robin, Patty; blame it on the cold wind and pushing hard the night before...or just bad food when you filled up.....just rest a bit, get hydrated and focus again as both of you always do. The Foundation is 100% behind you and keeping track of your trek.....you will be on the road again......stay warm.

Dear Robin & Patty...I just received my AAMDS newsletter and read about the two of you! You go girls!!! My daughter, Hannah (age 17), was diagnosed with AA in 1998. She's currently doing really well. Thanks so much for what you're doing. You won't be traveling through our town, but if we possibly can we want to try to meet up with you as you get farther "out West". I hope you're feeling 100% really soon. I'll keep you in my prayers. Yours, Diane Fall-Yarrow, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

We just got back form Georgia. Hope you are feeling better. Take care of yourselves and keep hydrated. You do not have to much of Maryland left to go. Keep on putting one foot in front of the other.

Hope your feeling better. Enjoyed the warmer weather in Georgia. I think I'm a "our hike" addict - missed the updates while I was away. Praying for you - I'm with you in spirit.

Wow! This is all so inspiring! I got your notice in the mail with a catalog and how cool it is to see what you're doing!! I'm glad I just about got to "join" you at the beginning of your journey. And your mom is so sweet to join you!! What a great idea. Maybe some day I'll do something as cool as this!! Thanks for keeping the posts going!
