Unplanned Zero Day

2-20-06

Today was our first unplanned zero day. We sure hope this doesn't happen too often. Whatever it was that made us both ill seems to have passed for the most part. We are both very anxious to get back out on the trail tomorrow. We are shooting for a somewhat shorter day than we had planned, but we'd like to make sure that once we have our hip belts cinched around our waists, we're going to be feeling okay. :)

I'm really looking forward to tomorrow. We're meeting up with Brian from Gannett towards the end of our day, and I believe he will have a photographer along with him. That will be cool -- especially since we'll be showered and as clean as we can be! Of course, I don't mind being caught at my grubbiest, either -- it's all part of the gig! In fact, it's kind of nice to have a good excuse to let ourselves have dirt under our fingernails just like when we were kids.

So many parts of this are so challenging, sometimes we wonder if we'll make it the last few miles to our campsite. But mixing that in with the fun, fresh air, laughter, and nature make it all come together. Mom says, "This is the hardest thing I've ever done, but positively the most rewarding."

We have received so much great feedback on our blog and our guestbook. Your thoughts and messages really push us along! Especially when we hear that we've helped someone dealing with bone marrow disease. It brings me tears of happiness to know that each step we take is helping, and it is so worth our efforts!

Well, if feedback helps, I'll offer mine.

My cousin Pam - a friend of your mom's - told me about your hike. I've been following your progress and admire you both for what you're doing and why you're doing it. Just wanted you to know I'll be with you in spirit. Happy trails, and perhaps we'll meet over a Comfort Cove campfire some day. - Dan Riley

Yup - I'm definitly addicted to this - but what a great way to spend my time. I am ever amazed at the outreaching effect you have had. Patty, it may be the hardest thing you have ever done but I can truely see how it is the most rewarding. Robin you have lots & lots of years of living ahead of you(just think how old your mom is) but it will be hard to surpass what you are accomplishing on this journey. Thanks for the journal updates they make my day. I'm with you in spirit -

We are rooting for you and are anxiously awaiting your arrival in southern Ohio and Indiana, where we hope to meet you and perhaps join you for a bit of your journey. My 9 year old aplastic anemia survivor, Kinsey, would love that. Hang in there!
