We were fed a wonderful breakfast from our trail angels, Margy and Rodger. Then they dropped us off where we left off yesterday. We started out not quite sure what was going on... it sounded like it was raining, but we didn't see rain. It sounded like raindrops were falling on the dried leaves along the side of the road -- kind of like a bowl of Rice Crispies. It was very weird, but it really made a neat sound. Maybe it was frost thawing?? We never did figure it out.
So we hiked up a steep hill, then back down, then up, down, up, down... it went on like that all day. We were on a country mountain road, so it was very pretty. The views were gorgeous, so that kept us moving. It was physically challenging -- kind of like being on Ann's stairmaster all day! :) Good thing she prepped us for that!
So then mom and I were walking along, getting tired, and a truck pulled up. It's Margy and Rodger!!! And that's not all! Two Sticks Ken and his trail angel Jerry (Tiltin' Hilton) were along! Ken is Margy's brother, and after his PCT hike, he was visiting Margy and Rodger, so they picked up fried chicken and found us! Ken is pretty fresh off the trail, so he knew exactly what a couple of hungry thru-hikers would want for dinner! Yummmm!
They drove ahead and scoped out a spot for our tent, and when we got there, they helped us get it all staked and tied down -- it's windy up here! It took a little scrambling up a hill and over the rocks, but we got it set up!
We all squeezed into the warm truck and dug into the chicken. I think we were all a little hungry! What a memorable and fun night. It was an honor to meet Ken and Jerry. These four wonderful people will never be forgotten!
To Margy, Roger, Two Sticks Ken, and Jerry -- thank you so much for such a fun night and everything else you've done for us.
We laughed so much, filled our bellies, and now we're ready to snore off the calories.
