We started this hike on Feb. 4, so we've been hiking for a month now. That's kind of a neat landmark.
We started our morning following the Tygart River. We saw so many cool rapids. They looked like they'd be fun to take a kayak over. Except for a few spots that Jeff pointed out where the water goes under the rocks. Looks dangerous!
The whole day was big hills up and down, back up again, then back down. I always thought it was so difficult to go uphill, but after a hike in the Smokies last year with Pam, we quickly learned that a lot of downhill is actually harder than uphill. It's so much harder to walk in control - especially on steep downhills. The good thing about rollercoaster roads, though, is that it usually means great scenery. And today, we had just that.
We saw a million cows today, I swear. We saw a bunch of cute little baby cows, too. We even saw a BRAND NEW little baby cow. The little thing could barely walk! It was very neat. Mom said it reminded her that spring is just around the corner. Oh, and a huge white, fuzzy llama that we thought was going to spit, but thankfully he let us snap a picture without any spitting - just a snort that made both mom and I jump.
When we got to Grafton, Jeff and Susan got us a room at a hotel, and we had a reporter, Debbie, and a photographer, Tammy, meet us for some photos and a quick interview for the West Virginia Times. After that, Jeff and Susan brought us out for a steak dinner. They have done so much for us that I can't even begin to say. What they've given us is SO much more than warm rooms to stay and hot meals. I really am at a loss for words. I only wish I could say just the right thing to sum it all up. Thankfully we have another day with them tomorrow, and we're really looking forward to it. And I think the weather is going to be good to us, too. :)
