We ended in kind of a weird spot, but I think we did about 15 miles total today. Jeff and Susan picked us up and we drove the rest of our route so we could see where it went. Then they brought us to where their daughter, Stephanie, was buried. She is placed in a beautiful area on top of a hill. I took a picture of her headstone, which is one of the prettiest I've ever seen. With permission from the Otts, I will be posting a picture of it on our photos page. Before we left, a soft whirlwind of leaves blew up in the air as if Stephanie was saying ‘Keep Walking.’
I actually had kind of a quiet hiking day today. I woke up feeling emotional, but once I got into hiking mode, I began to feel a little better. It's amazing what fresh air can do to a person! It's therapeutic! We passed a small farmhouse at one point with at least 20 beagles. They were all "a-wooooing" as we went by. It was actually funny. Beagles barking just crack me up for some reason. They're so cute, and they get so riled...
Mom and I still have a list of aches and pains, and I don't think we've complained in a while, so we're well overdue on that job. :) Actually, we are both finally feeling like maybe our bodies are giving in - maybe. We get some nasty knots in our backs, right inside the middle of our shoulder blade. But we've both always gotten that - just from sitting in front of the computer too long. So I don't know if that counts. Mom's blisters are just about fully healed, now. She's got feet of steel after all of her blisters callused over! She's pretty thrilled that she made it through that, and so am I! We were worried about infection there for a little bit, but she took very good care of them. The bottoms of my feet have been killing me these last few days, but I know why - time for a new pair of shoes already! I can't believe how obvious it is when you wear out that cushion. But other than those few actually expected issues, we're feeling pretty good! We still walk like ducks at the end of the day, but I don't think that'll end. :)
I would like to say 'thank you' to the Otts for everything. You were a great group of trail angels. Thank you for being such a wonderful part of the "Our Hike" family!
Before they headed out, they got us a room in Bridgeport, and inside were treats for the trail: pepperoni rolls, and some first aid supplies. They also had a Precious Moments card with the following: There is no such thing as hopeless if you believe."
