Start: State line, WV side
Destination: Shinn covered Bridge, OH
Miles: 24.8
Weather: A few thunder-boomers, shortly followed by rain
It rained almost all day long. We were soaked by the time we were done with our day - even with rain gear on. And with very sketchy cell phone service, we had some troubles meeting up with dad. We were basically in the same area, but couldn't communicate -- how frustrating! Oh well, we got to the covered bridge and sat and waited, and dad pulled up not even 10 minutes later. Oh happy day!!
We went back to the hotel, got cleaned up and right now, as I write this we're at a Mexican Restaurant and we just completely stuffed ourselves.
We started our day by crossing the bridge from WV into Ohio. Excellent - another new state! And we're well over 500 miles, now, too. So we're pretty excited about our progress. I think I'll miss West Virginia - especially the mountain views and the people.
The title "To Ohio we 'a go" is to the tune of "the farmer in the dell," and I started singing it as we crossed the bridge to Ohio, but screwed it all up, so that was our first good, hearty laugh for the day.
We walked along pretty good, picking up green rocks along the road for dad to take home for us - no way we're carrying that extra weight! But they were really neat looking, so we grabbed a couple that really stood out. And with the rain falling, everything looked oversaturated with color. That's something I've always enjoyed about the rain.
Dad met us for lunch with burgers, coffee, and soda. I tell ya what - we are being so spoiled! We are ready and anxious to get some more tent camping in, but it's tough to pass up a warm room and hot shower.
Oh - we realized something today as we tried to break in our first new pair of shoes on the ADT. Our feet got bigger. I know that sounds crazy, but while I was planning this, I spoke to some other hikers, and a couple have mentioned this happening. I thought it sounded weird, but I think it's true! Anyway, I think I need to get a bigger shoe! Needless to say, it was a sore-foot walking day. With a good night's rest, we'll be ready to go again!
