We took our time this morning. We were heading out on our own again and saying good-bye to our wonderful hosts -- Mike and Connie. Before we left, Connie even sewed up a tear in mom's shirt and threw a few dryer sheets in a ziplock bag for us! :)
Mike dropped us off at our start point, and we were on our way. Our first stop was the Nipgen Mini Mart. When we arrived we received a warm welcome. They had read about us in the paper. We stayed for coffee, foot-long hotdogs and an ice cream cone. We talked with all the folks in the store and even wrote an entry in a log book. It was a great push for us.
Our hike consisted of ups and downs by way of switchbacks again, so that was fun. And we forded quite a few streams, but the water wasn't too high, so that wasn't a problem. Some parts of the trail were very rocky and muddy from the melting snow, and that made it slippery on slopes. Mom fell once and got a muddy butt, and I came close at least 3 times. I managed to get a muddy butt, too, by sitting on a gross muddy log after a hard climb. We're camping now, anyway. Muddy pants are okay. And we took a break on Robinett Ridge - what a cool name for a ridge, hey??!
So now we're camped at Pike Lake Campground. Mom got a fire going, and we're slowly warming up. We did get a chance to hike without our jackets for a bit today, so that's a good sign. The forecast called for about 27 degrees tonight, so hopefully it stays true or winds up warmer. We're both hoping for a good night's sleep and a productive and fun hike tomorrow.
It's my hubby Adam's birthday today. Adam - I thought about you all day - I miss you and love you!!
Happy Birthday to Grandpa Drexler, too! We love you!
Mom and I hope it was a good one for both of you! :)
