Yeah! Clean Sleeping bags!

4-23-06

Start: Broadway Rd., Evansville, IN

Destination: Mt. Vernon, IN

Miles: 20.9

Weather: Wonderful!

Karen and Lee washed our sleeping bags today. They didn't give too much detail, but they showed us the looks they had on their faces when they took the bags out of the stuff sacks - it had to have been rancid. They are two brave women.  That's all I can say. That, and THANK YOU to Aunt Lee and Aunt Karen!! We are very excited to sleep in clean bags.

We had some pretty scenery earlier today, and a few hills. Lee hiked with us for our first 6 miles, and plans to hike with us again tomorrow - maybe even across the border into Illinois! Yup, a new state soon. We're pretty excited. The rest of the hike was through farmland. It was a great day for weather, so we really enjoyed it.

We are at a Mexican restaurant right now, and I think I'm stuffed...

As a provisional Boy Scout leader, long ago, I (arguably) supervised a group of 40 inner city kids who had never camped before. Yep, it rained. You should smell a laundromat after cleaning and drying 40 wet sleeping bags!

I see your route will take you to the Garden of the Gods. You will enjoy that very unique place. Also, if you have time and transportation, about 5 or 10 miles down the road, on the banks of the Ohio, there is a large (pirate) cave. It's well publicized, so you'll have no problems locating it. It's worth a little side trip.

Salud!

Robin-Remember last summer in the car ride home after that boat trip from hell-the day after the family reunion? You were showing Granny and I your feet? If you remember, I did not think they were cute then!!!! HA HA HA HA I just remember me and granny were laughing at them!!!!! Seriously-I suppose it is from the continuous walking and weight on your back-I gained a shoe size after being pregnant too. Getting anxious about May 5th-I will be down there very early on that Thursday morning. Love you two-Kandi
