The whippoorwill starts singing between 5:10 and 5:15 am. It's been pretty regular for 3 mornings in a row, now. Pretty neat. At first I thought it was a little annoying, but now I really like it. It's kind of like an alarm clock.
Last night we had rain, and it's been off and on all day, and as I write this, sitting in the tent, it's sprinkling. So with rain, we get gorgeous flowers, vivid green leaves, and muddy trails. But all of that is what makes things interesting.
The creek crossings we had today looked easy until you stepped on the rock - they were very slippery. In fact, mom fell on one. It was a scare for both of us. It wasn't deep or fast, but enough to get her wet. I crossed, then heard scrambling, and when I looked back, she was on her knees in the water tipping over onto her side. She bumped her head on a rock lightly, banged her knee, and scratched up her hand. I would've probably been in tears with it being a dreary, cold day. But mom just said, "Let's just keep walking so I don't get cold." She's tough, I'm tellin' ya! We were both concerned about injuries, but so far, no lasting damage.
There's a fundraiser in Phillips (WI) for us tonight, being held by our super at-home support crew. I wish we were there... I want everyone there to know we are thinking about you right now, and we miss you!! I really hope the event is a huge success.
I'm going to join mom in taking a Tylenol PM tonight. We've got 8 hours until the whippoorwill sings, so maybe our feet will get some relaxing tonight after our foot massages and a good night’s rest.
