Margie made us a great breakfast this morning - French toast and sausage. We got to Fort de Chartres to start our day and hiked past corn fields... and more corn fields. Every once in a while we’d pass a soybean field. Then up on the levee. But the scenery was more corn. Don't get me wrong - it was beautiful with the morning's rain, mist and fog with the bluffs off in the distance. But two people can only talk about corn for so long...
Then Grandma and Aunt Margie met us up on the levee and brought lunch. We sat in the van while it poured rain outside and ate sandwiches and fruit they brought for us.
Shortly after they left, Pat (her grandson Alec is an AA survivor - we had dinner with them a couple nights ago) walked with us for about 9 more miles today. Pat, Gina, and their family have been amazing trail angels. We just walked and talked nonstop until the end of the day when Pat's husband Dave came to get us. We went to dinner at Lisa's Restaurant in Prarie du Rocher, and then back to Pat and Dave's house where we were going to be spending the night. So we got showers, wine, and Pat even brought out hot tubs of water for us to soak our feet. We are sure being well taken care of here in Southwestern Illinois!
We've got lots to take care of tomorrow - including lots of steps!
