We tried a new hot-weather routine today. It got to 93 degrees, and we felt it - they said the heat index was 100 degrees. Either way, it was flippin' hot. We hiked until 2:45, and with hiking on pavement, we needed to stop. We took a break until about 6:00. We took a nap, had some dinner, and just tried to stay cool during the hottest part of the day. Having Dick here makes that much easier. He picks us up and we find a shady place to rest. He even popped up the camper so we could sleep. After our break we walked for another 2 hours until 8:00. It worked out pretty well - it was much cooler.
We stopped in at a little convenience center and talked with some locals. The lady working there is Indian, and has a nephew in India battling Leukemia. We talked with her a bit about that. We met a lot of very supportive people.
We took two trips to Sonic today. Dick introduced us to their Creamslushes. Mmm, yummy. It's like a fruity milkshake. That's right up my alley! And now we're camped next to a lake. We followed signs here thinking we'd be able to swim or dip our feet in. We got here, and get this - the lake is completely dried up. All that's here is a little inch-deep creek. We had fun with it, though - there was even a sign that says "no swimming!" Where the heck would we do that? Anyway, we got a picture of us in front of it. It really doesn't take much to entertain us - especially when it's hot. We tend to say things all wrong. A couple good ones today: (mom) "Perform the Heimlich Remover." (me) "I have to crack my nickles." (mom) "My banana is on crooked.”
These really get laughing about those.
That sentence I just wrote made no sense. And I thought I'd leave it - it's a perfect example of what happens to us - we just get goofy. And then we end up cross-legged and laughing. It's all good fun. Time for bed - I think my brain needs rest.
