Getting to a large-size city meant two things for us today - showers and clean clothes. We were so, so, so filthy from all the dry dirt and grime sticking to us. You can only get so clean with single-use packets of Wet-Ones, although I have to say they certainly help keep the stinkies away longer than a damp rag alone! I have never seen my shorts so dirty. I was actually embarrassed to walk into any sort of business, which can be required for a woman on a restroom mission. Thankfully people are nice and we have these handy business cards with our website and picture on them to hand out. That way we can show that we're for real right away and not some cuckoos. (Is that how you spell that?)
Mom got a case of the sicklies today. She was in need of emergency bathroom breaks, and she had aches and chills. We were getting nervous that she might be getting really sick - especially with Dad coming to visit tomorrow! But after getting into town, a nice hotel, and a little TLC, she seems to be doing better. We think we know what caused it - dumb thing on our part. We had a dehydrated meal with turkey, and the directions told us to let it rehydrate in water for 10 minutes. During that 10 minutes we decided not to have it, and save it for the next day. Well, not thinking about how turkey would settle after sitting in a hot backpack in the sun for a full day, we ate up. Mom ate more than me, so we think that's what did it. That's one mistake you only make once! :)
We walked through a construction site today. It was a new bridge, and as we began to cross, we asked one of the workers if it would be okay. "Yeah, sure, go ahead. Just go quick. If the other boss gets here, he'll be on your butt in a hurry!" So we quickly scampered across. It was that or a detour that took us back about 3 miles where we came from - I don't think so!!
We are very excited about Dad coming to visit. He'll be here until the 2nd, I believe, so he'll be able to be our trail angel for a few days. Oooh, maybe we can light pack! And we will also take a day off with him. Maybe visit Pike's Peak or Garden of the Gods. We don't get many opportunities to sight-see, so we're excited about that.
Oh, and the mountains are very much in sight now. It was just clear enough to see the tip of Pike's Peak and some other parts of the mountains - and we're only going to get closer!
