Becki made us a great breakfast - waffles with fruit, whipped cream and bacon - the kind a hiker would eat. But we ended up not hiking today. Mom had to get a camera, so Becki brought us around to get that. It took a little longer than we had hoped for, but we got it done. We also got a few things at a local REI, so now we're truly ready to hit the trail again - really!
We had a wonderful "vacation." Tonight we're camped at the Indian Creek CG where we left off on Friday, and we plan to hike past Kassler tomorrow. We're hoping to get a little over 20 miles. With our fresh feet, I'm thinking it won't be a problem.
After we got camp set up, some dark clouds rolled in, some raindrops started to fall, and the thunder began to roll. I've been meaning to mention the thunder in the mountains. Just imagine it - it rolls through the valleys, around ridges, and across meadows. So when we first hear it, it's a low rumble. Then it gets louder and louder. Soon it lets out a really loud, sharp "CRACK," and it echoes in your ears for a few seconds. It's really pretty-sounding. It's almost like you can hear its path. And I sometimes wonder if it sounds louder because we're up higher.
The last two days, as we relaxed, it rained all day. So Colorado has seen a lot of much-needed rain, as well as too much in some areas. Just SW of where we're camped there's 3 miles of road washed out. I have to say that it was nice to watch the rain instead of hike in it! I'm sure we'll get our fill...
Well, I suppose. The sun's going down, and so are my eyelids. So good night!
