We had good intentions this morning. We were going to check our Web site, eat breakfast, go to the PO and pick up our package, come back, pack up and hike 12.2 miles back to the Colorado trailhead and camp. We did all that stuff except packing up and hiking. Bill, one of the owners of this absolutely fabulous Leadville hostel, drove us to the PO and the Safeway for groceries, then began to explain the nightly menu - their famous Jambalaya dinner. $9/plate, all you can eat. So we did it. We decided to take the day off. We got a lot done, and I got my chance to chit-chat with a bunch of the guests here - I am really enjoying the communal living thing. It's really fun.
We got all of our running done, then walked around town and checked out some of the shops. We found some gaiters so we don't get rocks and pine needles in our shoes anymore. That'll be nice. I found ice cream - twice. Mom found jewelry, and Hickory found a pair of shorts. We stopped in an Irish pub for a drink, then came back for dinner. OH, was it good! We are stuffed!
After this very amazing day off, we are heading out into the woods for 5 days until we reach Crested Butte. We might be without any phone service, so we may not be in contact with anyone for that stretch of time. We'll be okay, so try not to worry too much! Besides, we've got Hickory as cougar bait! :)
I already feel antsy, and want to get hiking. I readjusted my pack today, and I am hopeful it will cure my alien baby's grumpiness. We'll see. Off to bed for me!
