We followed a cow path for a while this morning. I wasn't sure exactly if it was the trail or just a meandering, beaten-down cowpath. But it headed in a westward direction, so we stuck to it. Then I saw a road up a little ways, and that was our trail. So I don't think we were too far off. We probably missed a junction when running from the bull yesterday. Maybe it was our trail we were on, too, I don't know. I followed the creek to the jeep road... eh, who knows. We got to where we needed to be without too much trouble.
I don't think I've seen so many freakin' cows in my whole life! We went in and out of so many gates today. One we couldn't get unlatched, so we threw our packs under and crawled under the barbed wire.
We climbed up, then down, then did that over and over again. We crossed some streams, which was interesting in the Crocs. The cool thing, is if you get your feet wet, they dry within 10 minutes. The hard part was a long stretch on a gravel road made of large, loose stones. Those killed my feet, but we walked it slowly so we could step around the pointy rocks as much as possible.
Mom and I have entertainment tonight. First we have the show about how cows react when they get close to humans in a little Lighthouse tent. They all stare, then run around the spring pond while the younger cows try to establish dominance over the larger cows by jumping on them and chasing them at the same time. It's hilarious. Second, is the "radio" version when our tent door is closed. One moos, then one moo-ees, then another maa-oos. They go back and forth until we giggle, then they are silent for a bit. Third, we listen as several cows stampede, but we don't know in which direction. We just hope it’s not ours! And last, but not least, is the game show called, "Guess which one's the bull and stay the heck outta' his way!"
We asked the only cowboy for 1000s of acres, since he takes care of the cows, if they can be dangerous. I said, "They wouldn't bother us, right?" He just looked at me with a goofy look on his face and said, "If it's not a bull. I don't think there's many right around here." Well, let's hope not.
Off to bed with the sound of moos, maas, mees and heavy hooves running on the ground. I never realized how noisy cows can be!
