Start: Grand Junction, CO

Destination: Loma, CO

Elevation: 4,510 ft.

Miles: 18.4

Weather: Hot, and we dodged 2 rainstorms.

Claudia dropped us off where we left off yesterday, and just as we were getting onto the Audubon Trail, Channel 5 (Grand Junction) came out to interview us. Claudia walked with us for a while this morning, so she was interviewed, too. Having recently lost her husband to MDS, she was able to put a little different light on the need for research funds. I am a lucky survivor, especially having come out of it so healthy. So that's why I'm walking. And mom, too. If we can be a tool to inspire others and raise funds to hopefully save a life down the road, then we'll do what we can.

We walked on and walked out of a black cloud without a raindrop on us. We missed the rain, had lots of heat, and found a sprinkler and got wet anyway. But that felt good and there was no lightning involved.

Later down the road, Vera from the Fruita Times came to do an interview, and Claudia came to make us sandwiches for lunch. While we ate and talked with Vera, Channel 11 came out to do an interview, too. It was really fun today. We were in good spirits, and the company was really nice.

We hiked on, missing another massive lightning/rain cloud. It was just our day, I guess! And then on into Fruita, where I got a milkshake. The Sentinel from Grand Junction called and did a phone interview, shortly followed by a photographer who jumped ahead of us, laid in the road, and snapped several photos as we walked by. I'm excited to see how they turned out. I think he caught us at a neat angle.

So tomorrow will be fun. We'll get to see some of the paper articles, TV newscasts, and then off to Utah (in the car) to drop water.

Claudia is driving, and we now have a man joining us that we met in Loma when we got there. His name is Melvin, and he is the husband of Carol, who is the sister of Dave, a Director at 4imprint (one of our sponsors)! How cool is that connection!? We actually hadn't been able to get each others’ phone numbers, but they saw us walking and knew it had to be us, so they stopped! So we are very excited to have Melvin drop water with us. It should be an interesting day. This will be a whole new adventure for us!

Getting all that media coverage is great for the cause. Glad you are missing the thunderstorms. Keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Another state behind you - great progress, the convention gave you a renewed spririt & drive. I love all the connections, and it is good to know you have some support. I was in a fog yesterday & gave my WI Seester credit for the fish, Rob caught most of them & I signed in wrong so they are actually from MN, enjoy. With you in spirit.
