So up ahead on the road was this big, shiny, clear pool of ice cold water. Suitable for drinking, of course. And just beyond that was a little grass hut with a bar. And beyond that, a cold, blue swimming pool with waiters serving cold drinks...
Okay, so that may have been where my mind wandered, but hey - sometimes whatever it takes to get through a tough stretch, ya' know?!
Last night was sticky hot all night. This morning we woke up to about 10 raindrops, and a few more throughout the day (I mean like, maybe 3 or 4 single drops). So it felt humid on top of it all. I like summer and everything, but this is a little bit warm for my activity of choice. I am laying on top of my sleeping bag right now, and it's sticking to me - yuck! But, the hike goes on! :)
We stopped at a little beachy boat ramp area for our siesta. We completely submerged ourselves in the river. It might be brown, but it was cooler than the air! I changed after our swim and hung my clothes on a line to dry. We fell asleep and awoke to a voice, "Look, someone's underwear!" I opened my eyes and 2 or 3 river rafts full of people were offloading. I giggled and left them hang - they had to dry, and at this point, I figure, "who hasn't seen a pair of undies before!" So mom and I woke up, talked to a bunch of people about the hike and mom handed out cards with our website on it (hi, rafters!)
It was fun to talk to people. It's been a few days. We found out there's a hostel in Moab, so we may pay it a visit when we get in tomorrow. Ahh, showers, laundry, eggs, an ice cold Pepsi in a can.
One couple saw us walking earlier when they were on their way up to the river. The girl said, "I wonder where they're going?" The guy said, "Maybe they're walking across the country." Girl said, "Oh, right!" Imagine her surprise when she saw us and asked where we were headed... "Across America." "NO WAY," she said. I thought that was pretty cute.
Well, destination: Moab - tomorrow. For now, Aleve for the aching feet (oh, and they hurt tonight!), and off to dreamland of grass huts and cold pools with waiters carrying drinks. Ahhh, good night!
