Weather: Yup, hot!
We left our campground at about 6 am, so we had some nice shade from the canyon walls. But at about 8 we hit the sun, and it was hot. One guy we met said, "It's not the heat or humidity - it's the sun that kills ya'." It's probably pretty true. We stepped from shade into sun, and it felt like about 20 degrees difference. Crazy!
Right now, as I write this, I am sitting in an air conditioned room at the Lazy Lizard Hostel in Moab, Utah. Our room was about $20 - how cool is that?! And, we have great company! One guy is motor-biking across the country, and then down to the bottom tip of South America - he's from England, so we're having fun learning some terms... he's a fun guy. Another guy is playing Led Zepplin on his guitar.
So, it sounds like we're having too much fun. Yeah, we're relaxing. But we got sooo much accomplished today! We got into town and saw a Denny's - we were jumping up and down with our packs on - we have both been craving eggs, so we got a huge, hearty breakfast and filled all the gaps from the last 5 days in nowhereland. Once every nook and cranny in our tummies was filled, we realized it was Sunday morning and the place was packed! We had our backpacks, sweaty hats, dusty clothes, and we had to be just a sight! We got a few questioned looks, but we just went about our business like we always do.
So that was breakfast. Then we head to the hostel and showered. After getting the grime off, we head to the Visitor's Center. Cooper was the guy there who helped us, and the word 'help' is an understatement. He was great. He brought out about 10 maps, showed where we were on each, gave me a highlighter, and I sat there for a few hours with him and worked out our route. On top of that, we have my grandparents (mom's mom and dad) coming out to support us. They have one of those sweet motor homes and they drag their car behind, so grandpa is going to drive out to get us each night, grandma's going to fill our bellies with German cuisine, and my Aunt Mary is along to help, too. They'll be here Tuesday. Cooper at the Visitor's Center helped us with his routes, too. The mapping was exhausting, but we feel better. Now we're going to anxiously await their arrival.
For now, we are going to visit some more - this atmosphere reminds us of Hickory (we miss ya' buddy!). I'm already getting tuckered out, so I don't know how much fun I'm going to be. Ah, well, off I go! Until tomorrow...
