We were planning a "short" 10.5 mile day for today. We are losing our support crew soon - they are going to have to head home in a couple of days. We planned a short day so we could get a bunch of stuff done before they go.
We hiked until about noon. We took a little break to stop in by Scott at the Visitor's Center (in Torrey) to say one last huge "thank you" for his help. After our "short" walk, we hit a gift shop. Grandma came along, so that was cool. Then we did our grocery shopping. We were already on our way to getting our stuff done. When we got back to the RV, mom and I passed out on the couch for a two-hour nap. I guess we needed it for how hard we zonked out.
When we got up, grandma and grandpa were working on steak dinner. We had deviled eggs, chips & dip, and celery to start, then salad, then steak with mushrooms & onions, french fries, and peach upside-down cake for dessert - a special request by mom. It was all really good. Man, oh, man, are we gonna' miss Granny's Diner! If our trail didn't get too much rain tonight, Ba-ha and Gopher will come out to get us for one last night of good eatin', good family company, and a soft bed. Oh, we've got our fingers crossed!
Later on, mom and I went through all of our stuff and got all packed up to head out on our own again. Gopher Mary did our laundry for us, mom and I showered, and now we're all in bed - I'm the only one up right now, I think. I'm starting to shut down, though. My "lids are getting leady," as I just said - meaning to say "my eyelids are getting heavy."
So today was kind of busy, and we got a lot accomplished. It was fun.
And, it's Gopher Mary's birthday today!! So Happy Birthday, Mary! She learned the best saying from Scott this weekend. When asked for her age, she now says, "Old enough to buy beer." I think that's funny. I'll have to remember that one!
Me and my leady lids are now going to hit the hay!
