Chef Granny got us started this morning with one-eyed Egyptians - if you haven't heard of these, you need to try them! It's a piece of bread with a hole cut out so an egg can be fried up in the middle of it. Mom requested them for our last "Granny's Diner" breakfast, so Chef Granny made them up for us. I haven't had one in a while, and they were great! We said our good-byes to Grandma before Ba-ha Grandpa and Gopher Mary brought us back out to the trail.
We got dropped off and then said our good-byes to Grandpa and Mary, and watched them drive away until we couldn't see their dust cloud any more. But every time I saw antelope today (which was A LOT), we thought of them two chasing one down the road with the car! We will sure miss the Ogema Clan!
I would like to take a moment to touch on just how special it was for Grandma, Grandpa and Mary to come out. Their visit was scheduled around grandma's Chemotherapy treatments for lung cancer. I was able to see first hand where mom got her determination, and how it got passed down to me. At first, as the story goes, Grandpa was a little leary of being able to come out with Grandma needing Chemo, oxygen, and not feeling well. But she really wanted to come out to see us and to cook for us. So she told us that on the days she was feeling good, she'd carry things out in her little red coaster wagon and wheel it to the motor home. Some days she could get one load, some days two... but eventually, she got everything she needed to head out by us loaded up into that motor home. Grandpa saw this and got excited. She was on a mission, and she was determined to make it happen. So Grandpa started - the plans had begun - and they made it here. And we all had a wonderful time. I feel very fortunate to have had the chance to spend this time with them.
Grandma passed what we call a "stubborn determination" down to us, and even if it's one coaster wagon load a day, or one foot in front of the other, we will complete what we set out to do.
Thank you, Grandma, Grandpa and Mary for taking this time to see us, cheer us on, help us out, feed us, laugh with us, tire hunt while we hiked, and so much more.
And, continuous trail magic - today we hiked to Antimony where Bert and Marta picked us up. They are good friends of Ken and Marcia's. And they are awesome! We got showered, laundry's in, we ate some yummy local pine nuts, had a delicious steak dinner, ice cream dessert, went over some maps (confirmed our mileage from Torrey to Antimony), and Bert is fixing my shoe! We will hike back here to Circleville tomorrow and stay again. Oh, we love the comfy bed!
Speaking of bed...
