(To the tune of "Our House," by Simon & Garfunkel) Ouuuurrr tent, is a very, very, very small tent, with desert all around, sagebrush in the ground, and mountains in the distance, what a vieeeew....."
We are camped in the MIDDLE of the desert valley. There is not even a single tree or a bush taller than my knees for probably 10 miles. But looking around is all mountains, just far away. We could've planned so that we ended up in one of the little mountain ranges, or we could've pushed ourselves there, but this is where we got pooped and just plopped.
We walked on road all day, and the terrain is cool. We hike across desolate desert valley for 10-15 miles, then up and over a little mountain range, then back down into another desert valley, and back up again... and on and on. We hiked down out of one range today and could see our road for probably a 10-mile stretch with the next range beyond it. We never got there. The road just went on and on. Ahh, we'll get there tomorrow.
Jeff, our super-water-dropper-guy, pulled over as he was on his way back toward Milford and Beaver. He said he dropped our water at the 56-milepost, and it was there, safe and sealed when we arrived - thanks Jeff! We hiked beyond the drop 2 miles where we could find a better campsite. Because we had soooo much choice. "This anthill, or that anthill? There's a two-inch sagebrush over here... Some sort of animal hole here... Let's go by that anthill..." it's like that for miles. It's pretty as can be, though.
We did hike quietly for a while thinking about those who lost their lives on 9/11 (wow, has it been 5 years!?). We talked about what we were doing that awful day and how we found out... what a scare.
After our not-the-best Jamaican-style chicken and rice dinner, we're hitting the hay, er, sagebrush and other miscellaneous prickly plants.
