Another day of hiking on. We are almost to Nevada, and the road we're walking on is long, dry and hot. So we just truck right along as best we can. It warmed up quickly, but we made out pretty well with shade. I can't complain.
Our first break was alongside the road on a little hill cutout where we had a very short area of shade. And while we sat there, one of those shoulder grass cutters came by, and we didn't move. He was kind, waved, and even gave us a little room. We figured we had plenty of space until he hit a bunch of gravel and scared the daylights out of us.
Our next shade spot was around noon. We found a culvert that was small, and mom had to crawl in to convince me it would work. And it did. So we both crawled in and scrunched ourselves to fit. I took a picture of it - it was pretty funny. But it worked, and it really cooled us off.
We took our siesta a half-hour early because we came upon a huge metal culvert with a breeze blowing through it. It was too much to pass up. It was a great break spot! What was really fun was listening to everything we did echo.
After that we hiked to our last water drop. Jeff is the best - he stopped by each time he drove by and dropped our water each day - it was great. Now we are at milepost 7. That means 7 miles to a new state. I'm saving the excitement for when we get there... Progress, baby!
Tonight we actually found trees to camp by, although they are right along the road. And we have a neighbor! His home is a very neat pile of twigs, grasses, and clumps of cowpatties. We're not sure who he is, but we sure hope he's friendly! We just heard him rustle around a bit. I think we'll just mind our business and hope he minds his... we weren't about to pass up the only few trees for miles because of one little critter hole! Yeah, right, let's see if we're saying that tomorrow, right!? :)
