Yesterday's quote, or conversation of the day: "What's going on here?" "Pfft... it's Saturday... in the park." Hee-hee. Guess ya' had to be there.
Today's: "Brup. It's Sunday... in the orchard." We took our break in a pear orchard, but the pears that were left were too soft and mushy. Darn!
This morning Melissa and Kendall brought us to breakfast to the Waffle Barn. It was great! Then they dropped us back on our trail, and we had to say our farewells. We hope to see them at Pt. Reyes when we finish. Before we left, their daughter Lauren came up to mom and I and handed us a cute flower that we could attach to our backpacks. We had a really nice time meeting their family. It was hard to go.
We just hiked on levee roads along the Sacramento River all day. We saw lots of boats, fishermen, and vineyards. We even got a whiff of wine. It was scenic, but the overcast sky was kind of gloomy. We've really been spoiled with weather before today!
We had a guy named Chris email us and offer us a place to stay tonight, so we called him and set it up. He saw us on the news and wanted to help out. He is originally from Neenah, Wisconsin - right by Oshkosh! We had fun chatting about our home state, beers, and cheesecurds. You just can't get cheesecurds anywhere like you can in WI! Oooh, gotta' love those squeaky cheesecurds! Chris is a really cool guy. He's done biking and has experienced trail magic along the way, so he's here, paying it forward. It's so cool to be able to do that.
So we have a bed for another night. We are receiving amazing trail magic in California! We like this place! So, since we can, we're going to doze off in this nice, warm bed... zzzzzz...
