The Wind-down

10-28-06

Last night we all went out to celebrate the finish. Sarah and Pam, mom and dad, Steve and Debbie, Craig (Brenda's cousin), Paul (a friend I met in Moab), Adam and I all went. We hit a sport's pub, ate dinner, and had some drinks. It was really fun to let loose a bit.

My biggest surprise, I think, was Paul showing up at the end. I met him in Moab, and he and I kept in touch via email. He is from England, and is taking his motor bike all over the place. When he decided, last-minute, to fly up to see us finish, he was in Guatemala! He's headed to Argentina now. Paul inspires me to keep "doing." I appreciate his sense of adventure and his spontaneity.

I really don't know what everyone did today, but Adam and I did something I had been dreaming about for a while. We slept in until about noon, then just laid around, watched TV, and just played lazy. It was a great wind-down.

My emotions are this: confused. I'm trying to figure out if I'm happy, sad, or what. I think I'm just going to cry when I feel the need, laugh when I need to, or even just veg and have no emotion.

For now, we're gonna' have some seafood and cocktails at Fisherman's Wharf. More relax time. It's a hard day! :)

Robin, Patty! Congratulations and you did exactly what you said you would do, 9 months ago. Wow! As you wind down, I am sure you are reflecting on your accomplishment, and how you chose to celebrate life. You have experienced and seen the US as only a few have seen it. Now, the question is when will we be reading your book of the stories you never published??? Congratulations!

It is great that it is finally over but kind of wierd too. I agree with MN Seester, I amused to it being the first thing I check when i get on line. CONGRATULATIONS on an awesome accomplishment. You two are amazing. Looking forward to see you and being at the wedding. I guess you DO NOT NEED to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Robin and Patty, Congratulations on the journey of a lifetime. Anything is possible now. You are both role modlels to so many people, and you have inspired us all to get out and do something to help cure these diseases. Best of luck in your future, we can't wait to see what you will do to top this.

Congratulation you two! We're all so proud of you. We were "up North" Fri and the weekend and at mom and dad's on Friday. You were our main topic. Enjoy your time in San Francisco, and we'll see you soon. Love you both

You are two of the most magnificant women I know. I have come to get to know you well over these past months and enjoyed every minute of it! I have envied you at times, I have been thankful I am not you at times, I have laughed at you at times, and I have laughed with you at times -- but every minute along the way, I have been in awe of your bravery and stamina throughout this hike. I have admired the fact that you never, not even for one instant, entertained the idea (out loud to me) of quitting. It simply was not part of your plan, and that - to me - was most incredible. The fact you did not quit - not even on the Dolly Sods, not even after the wolves or the bears, not even after running out of water in the desert, was more significant to the thousands of patients and their families you were hiking for than you will may ever know. It just was not in your plan ... and for that, you are greatly admired by so many. Thank you.
